After a great backyard barbecue when the grill is still warm and glowing in neon orange, what better dessert is there than a s’more? A golden marshmallow toasted just right with a crispy outside and a hot, gooey inside, a square of a sweet, melted chocolate and two halves of a crunchy graham cracker sheet. So simple, yet so perfect.
Yes, so simple and so perfect, it doesn’t need to be changed a bit, but who said we couldn’t have a little fun and try? Let me tell you, people have tried! There is certainly no shortage of twists on the humble s’more. I found so many crazy concoctions that I had trouble choosing just a few! Here are my favorites:
1. S’more Pizza
For some reason I have recently been obsessed with dessert pizzas so when I spotted this gorgeous treat, I almost died. Chocolatey goodness and golden marshmallows sitting pretty atop a crispy graham cracker cookie crust; I think I’ll make two— one for me, and one for the rest of my family!
2. Giant S’more Cake
Anyone object to a GIANT s’more? No? Good. That’s what I thought! This baby is pretty impressive, so prepare for loads of compliments (and loads of happy bellies too!)
3. S’mores Pops
These are extremely easy to make and don’t even require a fire, so make them on a rainy day when you can’t use the grill.
Here’s what you do: Get a bunch of marshmallows, stick a lollipop stick or a wooden skewer into each of them. Next, melt chocolate chips in the microwave until smooth, careful not to overheat them. Dip and cover the marshmallows in the melted chocolate, roll them in graham cracker crumbs and stuff into your mouth! I’ll take 100 please!
4. S’mores Mug Cake
Mug cakes are so cute and they’re fast too. Just mix a handful of basic ingredients, throw in the microwave for a few minutes and voila! Instant cake! Try not to burn the roof of your mouth when you dig in—I know some of us are too impatient to wait for it to cool.
5. S’mores Milkshake
Ice cream + s’mores = It’s about time these two got together! All I can taste are those cozy campfire flavors mingling with a boardwalk ice cream shop. Perfection.
Try it Yourself!
I’m a big believer in experimenting with your own combos to suit your personal tastes. If you’re not big on chocolate bars, why not swap in some Nutella? Bored of plain graham crackers? Try cinnamon! Get your friends, go crazy, and have fun, because that’s what cooking is all about! Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Marshmallow fluff (for those who don’t want to wait for them to melt.)
- Colored marshmallows
- Jumbo (why not go super-sized?)
- Milky Way
- Chocolate raspberry bar
- Chocolate peanut butter
Graham Cracker Substitutes:
- Cinnamon graham crackers
- Chocolate graham crackers
- Triscuits, Ritz crackers or Pretzel Crisps (Gotta love that sweet and salty.)
- Chocolate chip cookies
Wait…did you just hear that rumble? Nope, it wasn’t a roll of thunder passing through, it was your stomach begging you to feed it some s’mores already! So let’s get cooking, the kitchen’s calling!
