How To: Fix Hair Quick

Whether you are dealing with the hustle and bustle of having to get to class on time, or realizing you might be late for work if you stop and tend to your hair, we are all familiar with the feeling of not having time to feel fully ready. With a society that is booming with activity and people always “on the go”, it’s unrealistic to imagine ourselves stepping out into the world looking like we just got off the red carpet or even simply out of the salon. Needless to say, one of the most difficult struggles to worry about appearance-wise is your hair.

We all have different shades, textures and lengths of hair. Tending to it to make it look exactly how we want takes time, and in the busy world we live in today, hair isn’t always a priority on our schedules. However, all is not lost. Here are some quick fixes that can help you scoot out the door, make it to your destination on time, and not worry about “bed head”. Here are some of my personal favorite “quick fixes” for hair, on the go!

Bed Time Waves

Time: 10 minutes

For: Late nights knowing you won’t have time to “do” your hair the next day.

When: After you take that long hot shower right before bed.

This messy “bed head” look never seems to go out of style, especially as the warmer spring and summer months are finally approaching. This look is perfect for when you have an early morning the next day and know you won’t have time to style your hair. I achieved the look above simply by showering, and brushing out my hair when it was damp. The key is to let it air dry enough to the point (without touching it after you brush it), that it is almost dry but not quite. Then simply tie it up in a messy bun and sleep with it. Your hair should come out in messy “I-don’t-care-but-still-look-good-without-trying” waves. Don’t put it in a bun while it is completely wet or mostly damp. You will wake up and it will not be pretty, trust me. Wait at least 15 minutes.

Find that your “bed head” is still too messy for your taste, or not falling the way you want it to? Well Spring has officially sprung, which means it’s time to bring out the bohemian headbands! I find that this look flatters every girl, and it will calm down your wild locks just enough, as well as add a trendy statement to your look. I literally look like this all summer.

Messy Pony

Time: 5 minutes

For: When you need to run to class, decided to nap instead of get “dolled up”, or just got back from the gym.

When: Any time of the day!

This sporty sexy look can be achieved quite easily. Pony tails are fun and classy when sleek, but a messy “just thrown up” pony tail can be achieved under 5 minutes with simple tweaking. Brush your hair with a comb or round brush and gather it into a high ponytail on your head. then after you tie it, (make sure it is more tight then loose), pull slightly on the top creating a tiny bit of volume. We aren’t talking a “Snookie Poof” here, but rather just something to give it some height. If you feel like being adventurous pull out a few loose strands. This fun pony will read as though you don’t look  overdone, but also not like you just rolled out of bed (even if you actually did).

Sleek Bun

Time: 5 minutes

For: Let’s just be honest….you didn’t have time to wash your hair this morning. Or your hair has some serious bed head and frizz that won’t go away. Or you need to be at a meeting or important event and have barely any time.

When: Times of extreme pressure and very little primp time

I swear by this hair-do. It is a life saver. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve had to go to a meeting, party or perform and had literally no time to curl or  do anything with my hair. This hair-do is my “go to” when I need to look classy and have NO time. People say achieving the perfect ballerina bun is difficult but from my experience, I think the beauty lies in the imperfection. A classy messy top knot has been rocked on Hollywood red carpets for years now, and I don’t see it going out of style anytime soon.

To achieve this look, I started by gathering my hair into a high ponytail, similar to the messy pony before, but sleek to my head. then I twisted the ponytail around the bun like so (see above). Then take 3 or 4 bobby pins and stick them randomly around. The bun shouldn’t be tiny or perfectly pinned down. it could be a bit more loose, but make sure it’s fastened. Then take some hair spray and spray down any “flyaway” hairs.

Tada! Your chic top knot is ready to go, and you’re ready to take on any meeting or class ahead of you. (No one needs to know it only took you 5 minutes of course)

ALTERNATE:

Is this sleek bun a little too sleek for the occasion? Try going for more of a messy look by pulling out more hair and adding a bit of volume on the top like mentioned in the messy ponytail idea above. It’s cute and trendy enough to be a perfect strolling through campus or running errands type of look. Especially when you have a day off or just want to go out with some friends!

Goldie Locks Curls

Time: 20 minutes

For: A party or a date, but you have less than an hour to get ready.

When: A party or a date, or any other time you feel like having effortless looking curls!

When I tell you I will never use a regular curling iron again for the rest of my life, I kind of mean it. That is because I discovered this very useful tool:

curling iron

This is called a curling wand. I used to be terrified of this thing. I’m not even kidding! I had no idea how to use it, and I couldn’t fathom why anyone would try to grasp the complicated looking wonders of this hair tool when you could simply use a normal everyday curling iron. Well let me tell you,  using a curling wand literally takes half the amount of time to curl your whole entire head as a normal curling iron, and the curls look more professional and perfectly styled than ever. It is basically a way to cheat your hair through perfect curls without having to worry about technique.

It’s pretty self explanatory, but all you have to do is wrap your hair around the wand either towards you or away from you depending on what direction you want the curls to go in (I find towards you makes them look more formal and elegant, away from you looks more natural and beachy), let go of the curl and BAM! A perfect curl right there. It is SUPER easy and a lot less frustrating than a regular curling iron.

I hope these quick hair fixes helped save you some stress over worrying about styling. We all have busy fast paced lives, and believe it or not, it’s easy to look awesome without all of the flat irons, gallons of hair spray and time put into it. Sometimes beauty can be effortless.
