How To: Plan Your Spring Break Getaway on a Budget

Don’t have plans this spring break? It is not too late to plan a last minute trip! Break begins March 15 so you have about three weeks to plan. We’re all sick of this polar vortex and endless snow, so why not get away for a week (maybe someplace warm)? Vacationing does not have to cost a fortune because websites like LivingSocial and Groupon offer trip deals that are too good to resist. Deals vary week by week so signing up for a free membership for either LivingSocial or Groupon will ensure that you are the first to know about a great getaway deal.

Quick tips for the LivingSocial/Groupon virgin:

  •  Act quickly on deals because they are limited time offers (they expire after a few days)
  • Look for “All-inclusive” deals; they usually include meals, drinks, and other activities that would otherwise mean extra expenses when you get there
  • Most of these deals are for two people
  • Make sure to read the fine print! The price featured on the home pages of these websites may not be the actual price of the vacation package
  • Look out for date restrictions and other resort restrictions
  • Look up reviews for the accommodations through other sources because the pictures featured may not be what the actual resort looks like
  • The cool thing about LivingSocial is that if you are traveling with others, you can possibly get your deal for free! (“Buy the deal first, and then share a special link. If three friends buy, yours is free!”)

Keep these tips in mind as you read this week’s deals below and other future deals:
